Georgia Tech club rowing recently competed at the American Collegiate Rowing Association (ACRA) Championships and brought home several medals for the third year in a row!

Rowing is a sport centered on grit, determination, and utter teamwork. All movements from the crew must flow together, in sync to lift the boat through the water as quickly and as powerfully as possible. “Rowing is a sport that really goes along with the phrase you get out what you put in mentality. The easy part is getting the motions down, but from there the hard work comes into play,” said crew president Jacob Sutton.

Georgia Tech club rowing recently showed their finesse on the national stage at the American Collegiate Rowing Association (ACRA) Championships. The team walked away victorious with first in the varsity men’s double, second in the varsity women’s pair, and third in the freshman men’s 4+ event. This is the third year in a row that Tech walked away with medals. While many of the rowers were competitive high-school athletes, more than 90 percent of the team had no previous rowing experience prior to joining the program.

As one of the largest Campus Recreation Center (CRC) competitive clubs they compete against both club and varsity teams across the country during a fall head race season and spring sprint season. “It takes a serious commitment from the athletes who choose to stick around and compete for ACRA, especially at a school like Tech where almost every person has an internship or study abroad opportunity over the summer,” said Sutton.

For the men’s double the season doesn’t stop at ACRA’s. They will continue training throughout the summer to compete at trials to join the National under 23 team and represent the United States at the World Rowing under 23 Championships.
